How to Play Cleocatra

Cleocatra’s playing area features 5 reels and 4 rows, with 40 fixed paylines active at all times. Landing three, four, or five identical symbols on any payline will trigger a payout. You can also land bonus symbols with special functions, which I’ll explain later.

The controls are clean and easy to use. Start by setting up your stake: tap the ‘+’ and ‘-’ icons to increase and decrease your bet, respectively. When you’re ready to roll, push the ‘spin’ button or press ‘autoplay’ to program automated spins.

Cleocatra Symbols and Payouts

Four different felines can hit the reels on any spin, including Cleocatra herself. Like the traditional image of Cleopatra, this furry version has black hair, a golden headdress, and blue eyeshadow. Other characters include a fluffy pharaoh, a hairless cat, and a kitty in a purple wig.

Non-cat symbols are a golden ankh, crook and flail, and five royals. Cleocatra awards the top prize on the paytable, but that’s (sadly) tiny — 20x your stake for five on a payline. The top prize overall is 5,000x total bet, though you’ll likely need help from the bonuses to get anywhere close to that.

Cleocatra Volatility and Return to Player

As it’s a high-volatility slot, Cleocatra can pay out less often than a game with lower volatility, but they may be bigger on average. I managed to win on a regular basis, though they stayed low (even with a few multiplier Wilds to give them a boost).

Bonus Features in Cleocatra

Wild Symbol

The golden pyramid with a pawprint on its front is the Wild symbol. This can stand in for all symbols, except the Scatter, to finish winning combinations. It will appear on reels 2 - 5 only.

Each time the Wild lands, it will have a random multiplier of x2 or x3. This will apply to any winning combination including the Wild, and multipliers will be combined when more than one Wild contributes to a win.

Respin Feature

If a full vertical stack of any one cat symbol fills the leftmost reel during the base game, the Respin feature may trigger. All cat symbols of that same type, along with any Wilds, will stay on the reels while the rest of the positions respin.

Respins will continue until you form at least one winning combination featuring the stacked cat symbol.

Free Spins Feature

Land three, four, or five Scatter symbols in the base game to win eight, 12, or 16 free spins, respectively. Any Wild symbols that land on reels 2 to 5 will be locked in for the entire bonus. These will have a random multiplier (x2 or x3) that will stay active until the feature ends.

If you land a full vertical stack of any one cat symbol on the leftmost reel, you’ll win two extra free spins.

Cleocatra Spins: Theme, Presentation, and Music

Cleocatra features crisp, cartoony visuals and slick presentation. From the birds soaring across the sky to the animated cat guards on either side of the reels, there are plenty of vivid details to enjoy.

The reels fill the centre of the screen, surrounded by an intricate wooden frame with golden features that gleam in the sunlight. In the desert behind the reels, you’ll see palm trees, pyramids, and even a lush oasis.

Cleocatra’s music is fairly generic and may seem familiar if you’ve played other Egyptian-themed slots, but the cats’ frequent meows make the audio a little more distinctive.

Verdict

If you’ve played a lot of similar Cleopatra slots (like I have), you might be pleased to see that Pragmatic Play has tried something new with the concept. Granted, this is only really superficial — the gameplay and bonuses are nothing boldly original. But letting you play with cute cats instead of the usual human characters helps give Cleocatra an edge.

The symbol values are disappointingly low, but at least Wilds can double or triple payouts when they feature on a winning line. And they’ll become sticky during the Free Spins bonus, which could temporarily increase your winnings.

On top of that, the Respin feature creates the potential to win a prize if you land a stack of matching cat symbols on reel 1.

The max win of 5,000x the bet isn’t massive (especially for a highly volatile slot), but it’s a decent amount compared to some other Cleopatra titles (such as Cleopatra Plus, with a top prize of 1,500x total bet).
